POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager, Wholesale Jewelry, South America & Brazil to join our client's team and drive continued wholesale growth throughout Brazil and key South American markets.
This individual will focus primarily on developing new wholesale business while also managing and expanding a portfolio of existing accounts. The ideal candidate will be fluent in Portuguese, have direct experience selling fine jewelry within Brazil and/or South America, and demonstrate a proven ability to generate $3–4 million or more in annual revenue.
This role is best suited for a relationship-driven sales professional who understands the nuances of doing business across South American markets and can successfully balance new account acquisition with long-term account development.
This is an on-site position based in Manhattan's Diamond District, working closely with leadership and internal support teams while leveraging an extensive live inventory of more than 8,000 pieces of fine jewelry.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities:
- Develop and expand wholesale fine jewelry business throughout Brazil and South America, with a strong emphasis on new account acquisition.
- Manage and grow existing accounts while driving new business development, with an approximate focus of 30% existing business and 70% new growth.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with independent retailers, mid-size chains, wholesalers, and other strategic accounts.
- Conduct professional sales presentations and client conversations in Portuguese, both virtually and in person.
- Identify new market opportunities and prospective accounts throughout assigned territories.
- Travel internationally for trade shows, market visits, and client meetings as required.
- Utilize CRM and internal sales systems to manage account activity, sales performance, follow-ups, and pipeline development.
- Meet individual annual sales targets of approximately $3–4 million, with the opportunity to exceed $5 million based on performance.
- Maintain consistent client follow-up to support retention, repeat business, and long-term account growth.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams on product selection, pricing, inventory, and order fulfillment.
CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
- Business fluency in Portuguese, spoken and written.
- Strong knowledge of the Brazilian and/or South American fine jewelry markets, including regional buying behaviors and business practices.
- Established relationships or a professional network within relevant South American jewelry markets is highly valued.
- Relationship-driven sales approach with strong follow-through and account ownership.
- Proven ability to prospect, open new accounts, and grow existing business.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong focus on revenue generation.
- High level of accountability, initiative, and performance orientation.
- Professional presence appropriate for representing a global fine jewelry organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum three years of experience in fine jewelry wholesale sales.
- Direct experience selling into Brazil and/or other South American markets required.
- Fluency in Portuguese required, including the ability to conduct professional sales conversations and presentations.
- Spanish-language proficiency is a plus, but not required.
- Proven track record of generating $3 million+ in annual sales revenue.
- Strong product knowledge across diamonds, fine jewelry, bridal, colored stones, and fashion collections.
- Experience working with independent retailers, wholesalers, and multi-store accounts.
- Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required.
- Must hold a valid U.S. passport or be able to obtain one, as international travel throughout South America may be required.
WORKING CONDITIONS / ENVIRONMENT
- Location: Manhattan, New York, Diamond District
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 9:30 AM–6:30 PM
- On-Site Requirement: Five days per week unless traveling for business
- Travel: Domestic and international travel required for trade shows, market visits, and client meetings
This position requires regular presence in the New York office to access live inventory and support client needs. Flexibility may be earned over time based on performance.
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary: $65,000–$75,000 per year
- Tiered Commission Structure: 1% on all sales under $1 million, with an additional 1% on all sales for the year once annual sales exceed $1 million
- On-Target Earnings: Approximately $115,000–$130,000+ annually, depending on performance. Commission is paid on collected revenue.
- Individual Sales Target: Approximately $3–$4 million annually to start. Top performers currently generate approximately $5–$5.5 million annually.
